For
years now, the team at Mojotone has been diligently studying vintage
guitar amp circuits and speakers cabinets with the intention of selling
accurate reproductions of pre-1980s guitar amps. While Mojotone has a
ton of valuable knowledge, and sources all the right components, the
true power remains in the hands of the customer. Amp kits have been
around for some time now, but are steadily increasing in popularity as
society adopts the "Do It Yourself" ideology, and Mojotone is fully
embracing this concept. "Having a customer tell you that your company
provided them with a quality product is a really great thing, but having
a customer tell you that your company empowered them and gave them the
tools to create their own quality product is invaluable," says Mojotone
CEO Michael McWhorter.
An "amp kit," simply put, is a collection of all of
the components needed to build an amplifier. These parts are sold to the
customer along with instructions on how to build the amplifier. It is
then up to the customer to properly assemble and wire all of these
components. Recently, Mojotone launched a new ad campaign for their
amplifier kits and put their first foot forward with the "Mojotone
Blackface style Twin Amp." This recreation of a classic American guitar
amp is presented in a short film in which a mustached man fantasizes
about the amp, stalks the amp, and eventually steals the amp in order to
partake in a rather rewarding jam session. Response to the sound clips
featured in the short video have been universally positive, and as a
result, Mojotone plans to continue creating unique promotional videos
for their world-renowned amp kits.
