Dave Maize Acoustic Bass Guitar ...

As unique in their own way Dave Maize's design, the materials that go together to produce his acoustic guitars and basses are truly special. Most of my instruments utilize woods which he has milled from native trees in Cave Junction, OR including figured Black Walnut, Sycamore, Black Locust, and Incense Cedar. Most of these were destined for land fills or wood stoves. Other native hardwoods which he uses are Bay Laurel (Myrtlewood), Bigleaf Maple, and Desert Ironwood. Soundboards are commonly made from Redwood, Western Red Cedar and Port Orford Cedar, all of which are reclaimed. Having the capability to mill his own woods allows him to carefully choose how he will cut a log to optimize figure, grain orientation, and color, all of which help to produce a high quality instrument.
